Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Shambhala Mountain Center

September 21st - 23rd, 2018

with Janet Solyntjes

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a program of practical, scientifically-supported teachings to reduce stress, facilitate relaxation, and promote physical health and emotional well-being. Inspired by the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn, this retreat offers tools for engaging the demands of our lives, including illness, chronic pain, personal crisis, or the ongoing challenges of a “full catastrophe.” By relating directly with our bodies and emotions, we’ll discover the power of mindfulness to change our lives. Through sitting, walking, and body scan meditation practices- as well as mindful yoga- we will return to our lives better equipped to manage stress.

Cultivating Kindness and Courage: Half-Dathun

Casa Werma, Patzcuaro, Mexico

December 15 - 29, 2018

Dathun, Tibetan for “moon session,” is an intensive group meditation retreat for new and experienced meditators interested in deepening their mindfulness-awareness practice through extensive periods of meditation.

Meditation is about learning to recognize our basic goodness in the immediacy of the present moment, and then nurturing this recognition until it seeps into the very core of our being.

The practice begins on the cushion and goes beyond the cushion into every aspect of the retreat — including meals, activities during open periods, mandala support roles (cleaning or food prep) and rest.

Daily dharma talks, guided sessions of Shambhala Meditation, and contemplative movement will allow us to connect with our body, heart, mind and sense perceptions–uncovering a deep sense of kindness, wisdom, wholeness, and joy to emerge.

Composed of two weekly segments called “weekthuns,” this 14-day retreat allows participants to attend either one or two weeks.
